Olympic and Commonwealth Games

We are actively looking at ways to engage with benefits for the Caithness & Sutherland area emanating from the London Olympic Games 2012 and Commonwealth Games 2014. There has already been one event linked to the former event in July 2010, see http://www.dunnethead.co.uk/London2012 which was organised by two of our affiliates, Clic-Sargent - and the Dunnet Head Educational Trust and there will be more in 2011.

There is a “virtual trail” north – emanating from the London Olympic Stadium to Dunnet Head. The association focuses firstly on the outdoor activities element of tourism, and the current secretary has organised the Caithness & Sutherland Walking Festival for the last 7 years.

I hope your Community Council could consider becoming a member of NOSH at whichever level you feel appropriate. You can download a membership form and send to us with your payment, or pay by Paypal. Once we have received your payment, your details will be entered on the site on the Friday of that week, when we do website updates. In return, we can promote the services in your village where it would be impossible to get sponsorship, such as the Post Office, whether there is a post box, a bus shelter, your local events – there is a calendar on the web site to which you will have access to input your own events using your own user name and password which will be allocated to you. Information about travel in the area will also be available on the site. The whole ethos is around sustainable travel. I look forward to welcoming you to NOSH, the first and only privately funded tourism association in the north of Scotland.

If you are planning an event or festival during the season, we can help you promote it through our extensive networking sessions, brochure distribution and database of people who travel north to enjoy the area.
