THE ALEXANDER BAIN, JD WETHERSPOONS
The Pub company of the year 2010.
The Alexander Bain is one of over 700 pubs owned
by J.D. Wetherspoon which opened its doors in May
2003. It is named after Alexander Bain who
invented the fax machine, he was born and bred in
nearby Watten and had a shop within the town. The
building itself used to be the sorting office for
Wick.
The pub is family friendly with a designated
family area and offers a wide variety of food
including a childrens' menu and a wide variety of
both alcoholic and non-alcholic drinks. We open
from 7a.m. to 10p.m. daily with the childrens'
menu available from 7a.m. to 7p.m. All under 18s
must be accompanied by an adult and have vacated
the building by 8p.m. daily. The pub is open
until midnight on from Mondays to Thursdays, 1a.m.
on Fridays and Saturdays, and 11.45pm on Sundays.
Within the pub we hold regular charity events
raising money for the company sponsored charity
Clic Sargent as well as events for local
charities. We also have bands playing at least
once a month, most being local bands. We also
have a community noticeboard within the pub to
allow both local people and tourists know about up
and coming local events.
It is a large pub with a quiet, relaxed
atmosphere. We have a designated seated smoking
area at the front of the building. The pub has lots of promotions including two Real
Ale festivals per year, wine festivals, Christmas
bookings, menu changes every 6 months and new
drinks promotions.
